Last Tuesday 27th, in Sao Paulo, Cisco hosted the annual Cisco Partner Forum. A full day gathering the most important Cisco’s partners, resellers, decision markers and tech specialists. They could enjoy a full day of trade show, lectures, debates and presentation of trends, new technologies and cases of success of Cisco in Brazil.
OneGRID, a Brazilian startup from Vitoria – ES that has an IoT based solution for energy efficiency in buildings, received an award in the forum as the Innovative Solution Partner of the year 2017. Cisco’s strategy here is partner up with 3rd party solutions to add them in their portfolio integrated with Cisco’s products. It’s a move to expand their market reach, to keep an eye on the promising startups and new technologies.
The partnership between OneGRID and Cisco integrates OneGRID’s smart automation platform with Cisco’s software CEM – Cisco Energy Management. This had an instant impact on CEM sales pipeline in Brazil and opportunities started to pop up throughout the country. The integrated solution has not only a solid hardware platform from OneGRID, but also a killer cloud platform (CEM) that can manage electrical grids, legacy equipments (old air conditioning systems), and lighting. By connecting the grid to the internet, and receiving real time information from smart sensors, electricity is then used only when needed and it shuts itself off when being wasted.
Here’s an example of how it works: If the window is open in a room, the systems can turn off the cooling system after a few seconds – This allows facility managers to decide how their energy should be used, and the system makes sure to run a green building for the users. In the first installations in big clients in the country (Faculdade das Americas, Ingram Micro and others) the solution has saved between 25-50% of energy in the controlled spaces.
This is a very interesting mutual cooperation of a start up with a massive company like Cisco. To this point both have been collecting positive results, OneGRID has now a global distribution contract with Cisco Innovation Catalog and Cisco is reaching new markets with very little effort.
This is an interesting take for Startups willing to reach global expansion.
