The South by Southwest (SXSW) festival , one of the most important events for the technology and creative economy sector, will take place in March in Austin, USA. At the event, there will be present 62 companies to participate in actions to promote business and image. The selection of companies is being finalized by the Brazilian Agency for the Promotion of Exports and Investments (Apex-Brasil), and it is expected that this will be the largest Brazilian delegation since the country began to participate in the festival in 2014. All in all, 56 companies out of 100 registered, and the rest will be announced by the end of this week. The export profile and maturity were among the selection criteria.
The participating companies can be of small and medium size, startups in search of partnerships or companies that already export, in the sectors of audiovisual, advertising production, games, music, fashion, design, marketing, technology and entertainment.
The companies will have access to six platforms organized by Apex for conducting business and prospecting opportunities. At the Trade Show, 17 Brazilian companies will exhibit their products and services. In the Platinum Connection, Silver Connection and Gold Connection spaces, companies can arrange meetings with potential buyers. Another new feature is the Brazilian Directors Showcase, an event organized by Apex-Brasil with the Brazilian Association of Producers of Audiovisual Works (APRO), where 10 Brazilian producers will give presentations to a group of North American buyers.
The Brazilian presence will also be massive in the event program: eight Brazilian bands were selected to perform, such as “Liniker e os Caramelows“, Maglore and Boogarins; Of all the panels, eleven will be led by Brazilian professionals such as Igor Kupstas, from O2 Filmes, and Felipe Braga, from the production firm Los Bragas. Apex-Brasil also supports a meeting on fashion presented by Ronaldo Fraga, a panel on diversity presented by actors Wagner Moura and Alice Braga, and another on virtual reality with O2 films.
SXSW has already been the stage for launching applications such as Twitter, Foursquare, Uber and AirBnB. In 2016, it gathered about 350 thousand people. In 2016, Brazil had the fifth largest international delegation, considering the number of people registered to attend or exhibit at the festival. There are already 600 Brazilians registered for the event in 2017 , and the country should be in 4th place.
